Being part of the project "The Idea of Africa" this work investigates the emergence of a wealthy African class and it's more evident aesthetics shown in the slow building of houses clearly evoking the westernization of daily aspects identifying power with western way of life.
Subliminal neo-colonialism?
These huge concrete mastodon, "elephants" that arise filled with allusions to our standards of beauty and harmony, and at the same time appearing as huge and terrifying masks, domesticated fetishes.
The pristine beauty of Primitivism, the comfortable aesthetic associations,
our extremely hygienic point of view from which we observe Africa -and other cultures- as timeless, without past or present themselves, is part of a Western fantasy in which fetish are "fetishized".
The "westernized" african also fetishizes our fetishes.

Perteneciente al proyecto "The Idea of África" este trabajo investiga el surgimiento de una clase pudiente africana y su estética más evidente mostrada en la lenta construcción de viviendas que evocan la clara occidentalización de ciertos aspectos del cotidiano identificando el poder con el modo de vida occidental.

Estos enormes mastodontes de cemento,"elefantes" que surgen llenos de alusiones a nuestros cánones de belleza y armonía, y a la vez mostrándose como enormes y pavorosas máscaras-fetiches domesticadas.
La belleza impoluta de Primitivismo, lo confortable de las asociaciones estéticas,
nuestro extremadamente higiénico punto de vista desde el que observamos África -y al resto de las culturas- como atemporales, sin presente o pasado propios, forma parte de una fantasía occidental en la cual se fetichiza el fetiche.
El africano "occidentalizado" también fetichiza nuestros fetiches.
